Tom Lehman is the founder and principal consultant at Lehman
Associates. He brings to each project nearly 20 years experience with online services,
over a decade of executive management experience with direct P&L responsibilities, and
an extensive background in survey and applied research.
In a recent long term assignment, Tom served as Executive Vice President for Alliance Development for a new Internet-based research company. In 1992, Lehman left a senior management position to establish Lehman Associates, one of the first consulting practices focused solely on the development of online services strategies and business plans, and on the corresponding needs for market analysis and research, product definition and development, and effective marketing programs to bring users to this new environment. Today everyone talks about doing business on the Internet. Tom has been talking about that for ten years and wrote an article on the subject in 1995. Many of the key points in that article remain as applicable today as they were then, despite the enormous growth and development of Internet technology and commerce. Prior to founding Lehman Associates, he was Vice-President and General Manager of LOGIN Information Services, an online services business he was instrumental in creating within Control Data Corporation and later directed as a for-profit subsidiary of the William C. Norris Institute. In his position he also worked on special initiatives for Mr. Norris, the founder and chairman emeritus of Control Data. These projects included network based approaches to technology transfer, application of data base technology to K-12 education, and the installation of a data base of successful city and state programs from the US and Western Europe in a Moscow joint venture to help the emerging new democracy in Russia. Prior to joining Control Data in 1981, Lehman was a Senior Research Associate at the University of New Mexico where he directed a number of policy and other applied research projects, and directed a public opinion survey research and analysis center. Lehman is a frequent presenter at national conferences and meetings. He has written a number of articles and reports including "Doing Business on the Internet" published in the journal New Telecom Quarterly, "Manufacturing: An Emerging Tele-Structured Industry," and was a contributor to a major study, Beyond Telecommuting, commissioned by the Department of Energy. He has written several articles on the deployment of Internet-based services. Lehman serves as a board member of the National Public Productivity Center at Rutgers University, and has taught courses on Internet Strategies at the Graduate School of Management at the University of St. Thomas. He holds a Masters Degree in Urban Geography and Demography from Miami University of Ohio. Lehman Associates is a corporate member of the Internet Alliance (formerly the Interactive Services Association), the Electronic Frontier Foundation, the National Business Travel Association (NBTA), the Greater Washington Society of Association Executives (GWSAE), and the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE). |
