He brings to each project over 20 years experience with online services, executive management with direct P&L responsibilities, and an extensive background in survey and applied research. Lehman Associates is a management consulting and research firm founded in 1992, addressing the needs of client companies and associations in the areas of technology-related business planning, marketing, research and strategy development. Lehman was an early proponent of web strategy development starting in 1995, and strategy and business planning continues to be a primary focus in his current consulting around web 2.0 technologies and social networking. As an extension of his consulting practice, Lehman provided consultation in 2000 to develop the business plan for a new Internet-based market research firm, support the process to secure major venture funding, and served on the senior management team to launch the company. Prior to founding Lehman Associates, Mr. Lehman was Vice-President and General Manager of LOGIN Information Services, an online services business he was instrumental in creating within Control Data Corporation and later directed as a for-profit subsidiary of the William C. Norris Institute. Earlier Mr. Lehman had been a Senior Research Associate at an applied research firm at the University of New Mexico where he conducted policy research, directed a survey research center and directed computer resources and statistical analysis functions. Tom Lehman is a frequent presenter at national conferences and meetings, and conducted numerous seminars and webinars. Recent topics include planning and strategy for social networks and social media, a strategic approach to technology ROI, the role of failure in innovation, and findings from the Lehman Associates annual study on the use and satisfaction with association management software. Tom is a board member of Voyageurs National Park Association, also serving as its membership committee chair. Lehman was appointed by Governor Pawlenty in 2008 to serve on the Minnesota State Commission on Deaf and Hard of Hearing. He is a past member of the Advisory Board of the Reshare Corporation and past board member of the National Public Productivity Center at Rutgers University . He holds a Masters Degree in Urban Geography and Demography from Miami University of Ohio.
